

The biggest star, and the most highly paid runner, in Sunday's ING New York City Marathon will be Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain. The CEO of the New York Road Runners, the race organizers, is Mary Wittenberg of the Upper East Side.
The field of some 42,000 will include an estimated 14,000 female runners - triple the number that ran the race 20 years ago.
The New York City Marathon isn't just an annual autumn spectacle. It is the gender-equity capital of the sports world, a teeming, five-borough testament to Title IX, the running revolution and the inclusive world view of Road Runners.
